Painful parody

The parody video embedded in the tweet reminded me of one reason why I left university academia.
It was as if universities colluded with journal publishers to provide article writers, reviewers, and editors for free; tied retention, promotion, and tenure to being involved in these roles; and paid the publishers huge sums of money to get copies of what their faculty wrote.
Did I say “as if”? I mean “this is how”.
When you look at it this way, you might wonder how so many smart people with Ph.Ds. look so dumb. I put up with this for as long as I could and left without looking back with any fondness for how-things-have-always-been-done-this-way.
