Another dot in the blogosphere?

Fax you?

Posted on: October 4, 2020

I decided to make a change to the health insurance for my family. So I contacted the representative assigned to me and he was helpful enough to send me a PDF to complete. He advised me to make an appointment at the nearest branch. I did that and was done with the process by the next day.

I thought I was done when another person emailed me and provided this set of instructions.

NTUC Income health insurance and faxing!

I gawked at the option to fax. What year are we in — 1995? Fax machines still exist, but they are practically relics.

The second set of instructions was also late. It arrived an email reply two days after my query and a day after I had already visited a branch to submit the form.

I guess that is what happens when you operate at the time and speed of 1995 dialup. We move at fibre optic speed now, and expectations and possibilities have changed.

I used to think that some teachers were stuck in old school ways and that they needed to learn from their corporate counterparts. This experience proved me wrong and reminded me that there are people stubbornly stuck in the past everywhere.
