Another dot in the blogosphere?

RIP Congressman John Lewis

Posted on: July 19, 2020

I did not think that I would reflect on passings two days in a row.

US Congressman John Lewis passed away after a battle with cancer at the age of 80. Tributes will certainly flow in the days to come. The NYT already has a piece on the civil rights leader.

One of my favourite soundbites from Lewis was in his interview by Stephen Colbert. He talked about getting into “good trouble”. I reflected on this in 2016.

In 2003, Lewis took the trouble to meet with a small group of teachers who were part of a project I was working on in the US. My wife and I were privileged to be part of that group. We listened in awe as he spoke, shook his hand, and scored an autograph in his book.

Signed copy of Walking with the Wind by Congressman John Lewis.

John Lewis might have passed on, but he has touched many lives both near and far. I am part of the latter group and remain inspired to be part of good trouble.
