Another dot in the blogosphere?

Ah, fireflies

John Green responded to his brother, Hank, by sharing how it was “firefly season” now in Indiana. The video made me nostalgic.

I got my Ph.D. from Indiana University, Bloomington, 14 years ago. The dandelion-filled meadow in the video looked so much like the one where I lived. My wife and I used to bring our son there to admire the light show.

I did not expect to see any fireflies when I returned to Singapore. But I discovered a secret spot at Thow Kwang pottery (near my former work place) where a small population flashed away.

Taking a walk around Thow Kwang property. Everyone stopped to admire the fireflies (03 Oct 09).

The photo above is from 2009 and it shows a small group of visitors walking to that area. We had been invited to mark the mooncake/lantern festival at the invitation of the owners.

That spot is long gone now thanks to “development” and “progress”. I am just glad that my family got to experience these wonders of nature.
