Wither Posterous?

Yes, wither. Not whither. I am seriously thinking about pulling two blogs out of Posterous and not recommending it to teachers and teacher educators.
Why?
The most recent service outage might be the proverbial straw that breaks the camel’s back. I was alerted of the down time by TNW and this tweet was the third in a series.
Posterous is still down (now 6 hours) despite briefly coming back earlier tnw.to/j2Bb—

When Posterous first launched, I jumped on that bandwagon because it offered blogging by email, easy group blogging, and an eye-catching and quick way of embedding photos, videos, and audio. As a plus, the service went mobile for consumption and creation.
Even before it was bought by Twitter, I started to see the cracks. Posts would not upload, be incomplete, or break later. Blogging by email used to be practically instantaneous; I have experienced hours-long delays. Posts would duplicate or photos/thumbnails would go missing (see example above). My son and I tried responding to a visitor’s comment but the reply never appeared.
It is like being locked out of your own house. That is why I share the sentiments of this edublogger who tweeted:
Well, it might just be time for me to give up on @Posterous as my blog host. I should have moved when they announced the Twitter acquisition—

I did move on after the Twitter acquisition. BUT, I’ve been unable to cancel (remove) my Posterous account. Several requests to Posterous help have gone unanswered – I think they’ve left and locked the door.

Thank you for dropping a note. It’s good to know that there might be problems removing a Posterous account completely!
