I love to travel.
Let me qualify that. I love travelling once the long flight is over! Then it is really time to explore and learn. You can live by the saying: It is not the destination but the journey that matters.
But the study trip I am on now was brought forward and it affected a class I am facilitating.
Fortunately, I have been able to reapply the idea of flipped presentations from the previous semester [1] [2] and the disruption should be minimal. My participants should have posted their presentations online in Edmodo yesterday and viewed a selection based on the instructions I provided earlier.
I will be able to access all presentations outside of class and from afar, and pose some questions. I also prepared a screencast so do not have to flip out just because I am not physically present at the venue!
I will say one more thing: Immediacy not the same as quality. It certainly helps to be there during a presentation to give immediate feedback. But as the presentations are flipped, I have already watched them. It is time for the participants to address the needs of the audience by answering specific questions, discussing, and critiquing.
