Learning where you are

Posted on: January 19, 2011

I shared this concept video a few months ago to illustrate just one broad aspect of mobile learning. But it has been misinterpreted by at least one administrator that I know.

The point of the video is not about knowing where you are. The point is is learning wherever you are and using what you (and your students) already have.

ok, administrator’s fault for misinterpreting. however, precisely because location-sensitive information is becoming more ubiquitous (plenty, therefore, cheap!!!), there should be more discussion on the differences between data, information, knowledge and wisdom.

example
data: location of bullet holes in WW2 airplane
information: the holes all on a certain side of airplane
knowledge: we should strengthen that side of the airplane
wisdom: how to avoid war in the first place, or, if inevitable, how to win a war without even fighting.

we need to tell people the deeper implications of new technology.
