Change blindness

Posted by: ashleytan on: December 26, 2009

Video source

The video outlines an experiment by Harvard psychologists to investigate what they call “change blindness”. In short, change blindness is somehow being oblivious to drastic or obvious change. The psychologists have no definite explanation for why this happens.

I think the same sort of blindness happens in education, but the reasons are clearer. Some do not wish to see the changes, others have blinders on. Yet others abhor change.

The consequence of change blindness in the experiment might have resulted only in a little embarrassment. The consequences of change blindness in education are likely to be far more significant.
