Karl Kapp shares his thoughts on how students can become better learners. They should teach.
I could not agree more. To teach something requires a high level of understanding with that topic.
I tell every class at the beginning of the semester that I benefit the most because I process some of the content over and over again. So I tell them that they must teach one another and I give them opportunities to do this.
They prepare demo lessons that include content, pedagogy and ICT, and they teach this to their peers. I tell them to get help from one another first before asking me. They teach one another during e-learning because the e-tasks are designed that way. I find that those who take full advantage of these opportunities not only learn more about the content and themselves, they also tend to do better in terms of grades.
Kapp calls this approach the “each one, teach one” method. Catchy name for something that I am sure progressive educators practice but might not label as such. Perhaps he should trademark it!
