The neutral observer might point out that Google owns YouTube. Statisticians will can move the numbers about as much as they want. But I think there is an underlying phenomenon at work.

If it is true that YouTube is the #2 search engine (in the USA), then the people there are relying more and more on visual and aural sources of information. If this trend happens worldwide, we should reconsider what we understand by being “literate”.
